BRAZILIAN CUSTOMS INFORMATION – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

A customs declaration is required for every parcel sent outside of the UK to ensure it can be processed efficiently by the Brazilian customs authorities. We'll automatically generate your customs documents based on the information you provide during booking.

CRUCIAL REQUIREMENT: THE CPF OR CNPJ

For all shipments to Brazil, you must provide the recipient's Tax ID number. This is either:

  • CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) for private individuals.
  • CNPJ (Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica) for businesses.

Parcels without this number will face significant delays, may be subject to fines, or will be returned to the sender at your cost.

Don’t worry - you’ll be prompted to enter this number during booking to make sure your parcel clears customs smoothly.

What items can't I send to Brazil?

As well as the usual prohibited and restricted items you would expect from any international parcel delivery, there are a few things to note before sending a parcel to Brazil.

You may be required to obtain a preliminary license from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade. There are also specific requirements for invoices for textiles and computer software. Visit the Customs website (in Portuguese) or VisaHQ for more information.

Failure to comply can lead to significant delays, fines, or even the seizure of your parcel. Examples of items you can’t post to Brazil include:

RESTRICTED AND PROHIBITED GOODS

Food

Illegal and dangerous

Other

Fruit and vegetables

Guns, explosives and ammunition

Plant and plant products

Meat and fish

Deadly weapons

Cigarettes or alcoholic beverages of Brazilian origin

Eggs and dairy products

Illegal drugs

Counterfeit money and goods

*Please be aware that we also have our own prohibited items list, in addition to country-specific restrictions. This includes perishable foodstuffs, as well as certain batteries and electronics. For the most up-to-date information, it is crucial to consult the official Brazilian government websites relevant to your parcel's contents.

How to package parcels to Brazil

We advise you to be vigilant when packing your parcel for shipment. It will be taking quite a long journey to Brazil, through several depots with automated sorting machines.

Here are a few essential tips to help you prepare:

  • Invest in a Strong Box: Always use a new, robust, double-walled cardboard box. Reused or compromised boxes significantly increase the risk of damage.
  • Prevent Movement: Fill all empty spaces inside the box with packing peanuts, shredded cardboard, or other void fillers to provide crucial stability and prevent shifting during transit.
  • Seal for the Journey: Use durable, pressure-sensitive packing tape (at least 48mm wide) to seal all openings and seams securely. The ‘H-tape’ method offers superior security.
  • Individual Protection: Give each item its own layer of defence. Wrap everything separately with generous cushioning like bubble wrap or foam to absorb shocks.
