How long will it take to deliver

Not only do we offer some of the cheapest courier services from the UK to Kenya, it’s fast as well – even to the east coast of Africa, you can still expect delivery to take just 3 days*. Note that we always aim to deliver your items within these timescales, sometimes it can take longer for your parcel to arrive, especially to more remote area of the country.

Remember, to ensure the quickest delivery possible, you should also be aware of what you can and can’t send in the post – all items will need clearance through Customs, so ensure you label everything clearly and correctly to avoid any unnecessary delays and costs. See below for more information on Kenyan customs.

Do I need to deal with Kenyan customs?

For any parcel heading outside of the UK, you’ll need to fill out a customs form. This tells the Customs Agents in the destination country about the contents of your package so they can process it correctly.

As with most international postings, when you send a parcel to Kenya from the UK, there are sometimes additional customs duties and import taxes that need to be paid, depending on the contents. When preparing your package, include an inventory describing all the contents to comply with these legislations.

Sending personal effects to Kenya requires additional declaration by using a pro-forma invoice showing an itemised list of the contents with individual values. It’s important that this invoice is written in English. It has the same requirements as the commercial invoice but does not need to be on letter-headed paper. Note that any new items declared under personal effects are subject to duties and the receiver’s passport is required for clearance.

If this sounds like a challenge, don’t worry - when you book your delivery, we will provide you with all the correct forms you need to help your parcel through both UK and Kenyan customs.

HM Revenue & Customs has more information on tax and customs considerations for Kenya.

What items can't I send to Kenya?

Before booking your courier service to Kenya, please check that all the items you’re planning on sending are allowed; sometimes regular, every day products to us in the UK are in fact restricted or prohibited to send to other countries. Kenya has several items that fall into this category, as such, we advise to re-check the regulations every time you send a parcel, as the regulations can change.

For more information on restricted and prohibited items for Kenya– visit the Kenya Revenue Authority website.

Products such as alcohol, fresh (perishable) foodstuffs and narcotics are not only prohibited to send to Kenya, they’re also on our prohibited list - take a look at the full list before you prepare to send your parcel. In the meantime, some examples of items you can’t post to Kenya include:

RESTRICTED AND PROHIBITED GOODS

Food

Illegal and dangerous

Other

Meat, poultry and fish

Drugs and chemicals

Most animal bones, horns, teeth and other by-products

Eggs and dairy

Hazardous waste

Soaps or cosmetics containing mercury
Perishables Weapons and explosives Counterfeit money; notes and coins

*Please be aware that we also have our own prohibited items list, in addition to country-specific restrictions.

How to package parcels to Kenya

Depending where in the UK you send from, the journey your parcel will take to Kenya is around 5000 miles – which is a fair distance! It’s also why we advise taking extra care when getting your parcels ready for transport. All parcels will go through a number of depots with both manual handling and automated sorting machines, not to mention the road and air transit routes to get all the way to Eastern Africa.

We’ll carry parcels up to 25kg in weight and 70x70x70cm max in size, but no matter what the size or weight, always use a strong outer box to send your items in and don’t overfill it. Remember also to use a lightweight cushioning material to help protect the contents from moving around too much in transit and becoming damaged.
