If you’ve sold a fishing rod online or are simply gifting an old rod to friend or family member, you may find it’s difficult to package and post. Fishing rods are typically long, awkwardly shaped and extremely fragile, making them tricky to send, but don’t fear, with our guide, your fishing rod will be safely winging its way to your recipient in no time!

HOW TO PACK YOUR FISHING ROD

Fishing rods are fragile so extra care needs to be taken when packaging your parcel. Here’s our top tips for packaging your fishing rod to ensure it doesn’t get damaged in transit:

What you’ll need: Heavy duty tube | Bubble wrap | Packaging chips | Parcel tape

Step 1: We recommend sending your fishing rod in a heavy duty tube. There are packaging tubes made specifically for fishing rods on the market, but these can be pricey. Instead, try popping into your local DIY store and picking up some sturdy plastic piping or tubing at a fraction of the price!

Step 2: Next, you’ll need to cut your tube to size. Ideally, it should be slightly larger than your fishing rod – too small and it risks getting bent, too big and the rod will move around in transit.

Step 3: Wrap your fishing rod in plenty of bubble wrap and carefully put inside the tube.

Step 4: Fill any unused space around your fishing rod with packaging chips so it can’t move.

Step 5: Put the lid on the tube and seal with strong parcel tape.

Step 6: Once you’ve booked your parcel delivery with us, your label will print. Make sure you affix the label lengthways to the tube (our scanners won’t be able to read the barcode if curved).

PROTECT YOUR PARCEL WITH CONTENTS COVER

Fishing rods vary in price – cheap rods sell for £20 whereas more expensive rods retail for hundreds of pounds. We provide £25 contents cover as standard on all parcels sent within the UK and £50 for all international parcels. If you are sending a more expensive fishing rod, we recommend taking out extended contents cover to the value of the rod. This is a small extra cost which gives you the peace of mind that your fishing rod is covered should it go missing or get damaged in transit.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET THERE?

If you are sending a fishing rod to a UK address then it will be delivered on the next working day after collection. We also offer international delivery to 160 countries worldwide with transit times starting from 2-3 days. We have a variety of international services to meet your needs, but when sending something fragile we recommend using expedited delivery to reduce the time the item is in transit.

SEND LARGE PARCELS

Fishing rods can vary dramatically in size – from 4 feet to a whopping 14 feet! There are two main styles of fishing rod: telescopic rods and one piece rods. Telescopic rods are much easier to send as they can be broken down into more manageable chunks, whereas a one piece rod is fixed and doesn’t come apart.

When sending a fishing rod, you need a carrier which is equipped to handle large parcels. With us, you can send parcels measuring up to 70cm to a UK address or 120cm to an international address. There’s no need to struggle taking your large parcel to the post office, our driver will collect it straight from your door and you can even choose the day of collection to fit around your schedule (up to 5 days in advance).

Now you know everything there is to know about sending fishing rods, you’re ready to send your rod safely to your recipient. Get a quick quote to see how much it will cost to send to your destination.
